My Bourbon Journey

Welcome. If you have found your way here, my name is Gordon Louis and I am an accountant / bourbon enthusiast based in Virginia. Like many of my friends in the hobby, my journey with bourbon began many years ago as I watched Jon Hamm look cool as hell drinking whiskey in his office at Sterling Cooper. Sure, I had enjoyed the occasional Evan Williams and Coke a time or twenty in college, but my first serious adventures in to bourbon began about 20 years ago. Since that point, I’ve had the privilege to try a wide variety of bourbons, watch the industry explode through the pandemic and see the rise of bourbon content on various social media platforms.

How is this site different from the various other channels, instagram / tiktok accounts, etc? Firstly, this is only bourbon. I hate rye, american single malts, etc. If you are looking to see reviews on those type of whiskies, I would suggest closing the page before the end of this sentence. Secondly, I am an accountant by background and I really enjoy drinking bourbon with my friends. I don’t know that I could tell you what baking spices taste like (ask my wife she’ll agree) or what rickhouse at which distillery produces better juice. What I can promise is that I’ll try my best to provide realistic reviews, of bourbon’s you can probably find, with a humorist twist. There will definitely be accounting puns throughout my reviews, sorry in advance.

Hopefully you enjoy the reviews and find them helpful whether you are just beginning your journey, or whether you are the kind of person who sniffs a glen and complains about the nose. If you live in a place that isn’t state-controlled, I’m jealous. Please cut me some slack on the bottles that appear here, most everything cool is allocated for way too long in Virginia-stan.
